TeamDRR - Welcome, the Concept and What is is all about?
Concept:
The idea behind teamDRR is to encourage the participation of Dorset Rough Rider Members in mountain bike events locally and to a degree around the country. Riding your bike in a competitive environment in a well organised event is a different experience from riding your local trails. We love riding our bikes anywhere and racing is exciting and fun. Although many members have been entering these events in the past, with TeamDRR we can enter them with a club presence and team spirit. By being a club member you are automatically entitled to be part of this.
Moving in to the 2009 season Rob Koppenhol and Steve Gordon will be continuing the good work that has been put into TeamDRR by Martin Zepler, as a joint effort with assistance from Davey Goddard. After all being active in last year’s TeamDRR we felt that sharing responsibility widens the approachability of TeamDRR with the objective of introducing more riders to racing.
Events:
The key events will be co-ordinated via the forum with a central thread for each one, offering the event overview, entry details and maintaining a list of interested riders and if appropriate suggested advice about equipment and nutrition. We will keep the thread updated to give a central point for each of you to see and hopefully it will help with organising car sharing whenever possible/convenient, event accommodation (if required) and a place for all questions to be voiced.
The events for the Team have been selected to offer a variety of choice hopefully to suit almost all needs, if you really want to do the TransAlp have a chat!
All events will be off road and officially timed.
We will try to have attend all the key publicised events (personal circumstances allowed for) in some way.
Where possible all TeamDRR’s to share the same area, allowing DRR to use its banners/flag, riders to have a chat, fettle with their bikes or get some help with fettling and build the TeamDRR ‘presence’.
A report of the key events will be published in the TeamDRR section, might even get a photo or 2.
MTB racing is an exciting endeavour which involves pushing you to become a better and fitter rider and although we hope to be able to support you when requested you will be entering at your own risk. You will always have to keep to the event regulations and above all respect marshall's and organisers directions.
Training:
TeamDRR goes further that just doing the events. In order to enhance the team atmosphere we will encourage co-operation in various forms. Specific training rides will be scheduled to complement every event on the list. Steve and Rob will be leading rides that will focus on the type of race that will be on next. If it is a XC race there will be hard and fast (well fast’ish) forest rides, if it is a Welsh enduro then big Purbeck loops will be the order of the day. These rides will be published as usual on the ride calendar. If the groups are big enough we will be able to focus on specific needs with specific riders.
Combining our varied event experience (1hr XC to 7 day Enduro and most of what comes in between) allows there to be ‘someone to ask’ for riders wanting to try the events or train for their next. Go on try us, if it is something we have done we are happy to share previous experiences.
Competition:
We will be keeping the TeamDRR competition, there is nothing like a bit of friendly competition to enhance the mind, lungs and legs! Although it is not compulsory, if you do want to take part you will have to register to teamdrr@dorsetroughriders.co.uk Again, don’t worry if you are not interested in the competition itself but want to be part of the team, just let us know.
Costs:
You will have to pay the entry fee for each event, and the travel, parking and accommodation costs yourself.
Rules:
The rules for the TeamDRR competition will be relatively simple. All the events will be timed and this will form the basis of your scores. A detailed points table will be available before each event and in the week following the publication of the time sheets we will on the website.
At the end of the season the points will be accumulated and at the end of year Dorset Rough Riders event, prizes will be handed out to the most successful and most memorable TeamDRR riders.
